Cloud Migration

Workloads moved in planned waves, with a way back

A migration done in a hurry tends to recreate the old problems on a more expensive platform. We plan moves to the cloud in waves, choosing for each workload whether to rehost, refactor or retire it, and keep a rollback plan for every step.

What's included
In this engagement06
  • Discovery and assessment
  • Migration strategy
  • Landing zone setup
  • Wave planning
  • Data migration
  • Post-migration optimization

Why it matters

Moving is the easy part. The real work is deciding what to move, in what order, and what the environment should look like once you are there.

What this includes

Six parts of the work. Which of them you need depends on where you are starting from, and we agree that before anything is built.

  1. 01

    Discovery and assessment

An inventory of applications, dependencies and data, with each workload assessed for the move.

  2. 02

    Migration strategy

For each workload: rehost, replatform, refactor, replace or retire, with the reasoning written down.

  3. 03

    Landing zone setup

Accounts, networking, identity and guardrails in place before the first workload arrives.

  4. 04

    Wave planning

Workloads grouped and sequenced to limit risk and keep the business running.

  5. 05

    Data migration

Databases and files moved with validation, and cut-over windows planned with the business.

  6. 06

    Post-migration optimization

Right-sizing and tuning once workloads are running and real usage is visible.

  7. Not sure which of these you need?

Tell us where things stand for you today and we will suggest where to start.

How we deliver it

Four stages, agreed with you before the work starts, with a working result at the end of each rather than one reveal at the end.

  1. Assess

We map what you run today, how it connects, and what each workload needs.

  2. Plan

We agree the target architecture, the migration path per workload and the wave schedule.

  3. Migrate

Each wave is moved, tested and cut over, with rollback ready at every step.

  4. Optimize

We tune cost and performance on real usage and hand over operating documentation.

Technologies we work with

The tools we reach for most often in this work. We fit in with what you already run rather than asking you to change it.

What you receive

Yours to keep when the engagement ends, whether we carry on working together or not.

  • A migration plan

Every workload, its target, its wave and its rollback approach.

  • A landing zone

A secure, well-structured cloud foundation ready for production.

  • Migrated workloads

Applications and data running in the cloud, validated against the old environment.

  • An operations handbook

How the new environment is monitored, backed up and supported.

Common questions

The ones that come up in almost every first conversation about this work.

  • Usually not all of them. Many workloads can move as they are and be improved later. We reserve refactoring for the cases where it clearly pays off.

  • Through careful sequencing, replication where possible, rehearsed cut-overs in agreed windows, and a tested rollback plan for each step.

  • It depends on your existing licenses, skills, applications and region needs. We compare the options against those factors rather than defaulting to one.

Let's talk about Cloud Migration

A short call is usually enough to work out whether we can help and where it makes sense to start. No preparation needed.
